š§ Do you think The Sora PR Puppets were right to expose Sora before it was publicly ready?
OpenAIās highly anticipated text-to-video modelāSoraāwhich was first introduced in February, has been leaked by a group of Sora beta testers (who are reportedly called the āSora PR Puppetsā) in protest over āart washingā and being used for āunpaid R&D and PR.ā
š Key Points:
The testers published an AI video model on Hugging Face (a public repository of AI models) which was connected to the (private) Sora API, which enabled users to generate 10-second videos via text prompts.
After three hours, access was revoked (either by OpenAI or Hugging Face), but not before several users published their video clipsāwhich bore OpenAIās distinctive visual watermarkāonto social platform, X.
Users who wrangled access said it was a faster, āturbo variantā with more style controls, but had fewer customization options, which comes Sora has reportedly suffered technical setbacks, pushing back the launch.
š¤ Why you should care: The Sora PR Puppets published a note, with the leaked Sora model, saying that Soraās early access program is just an excuse for OpenAI to exploit artists, demanding unpaid testing and positive-only feedback (allegedly Soraās early testersāwhich include red teamers and creative partnersāhave been pressured to spin a positive narrative around Sora) and believe that OpenAIās content approval process is biased: āevery output needs to be approved by the OpenAI team before sharing,ā which is misleading.

1ļøā£ Phone scams are on the rise, but an AI granny is on the job.
āļø Phone scams are on the rise, but an AI granny is on the job. Daisy, who looks and chats like your grandmother, is a conversational AI-powered chatbot built by British phone company O2 to fight fraud. Daisy tricks phone scammers into thinking theyāre speaking with a real human, and rambles on to keep fraudsters occupied and away from real people. While one AI granny doesnāt have enough knitting stories to stop phone fraud, itās worth a shot: Global consumers lost $1T+ to online scams last year, and Virgin Media O2 blocked $315m+ in fraudulent transactions ā the equivalent of one every two minutes.
2ļøā£ Amazon enters AI chatbot race (finally)
Amazon is stepping up its AI game with a new generative AI model, code-named Olympus, that can process images and videos alongside text.
Olympus can analyze and understand scenes in videos and images, allowing users to search for specific momentsālike a winning basketball shotāusing simple text prompts.
The model helps Amazon move away from relying heavily on Anthropicās Claude chatbot, which has been integrated into AWS.
Amazon is expected to officially unveil Olympus as early as next week during its annual AWS re:Invent customer conference.
This move positions Amazon to compete more directly with AI leaders like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
